We all know how difficult shoulder pain can be. Unfortunately, if you have a supraspinatus lesion, you might experience even more severe shoulder pain than usual. In this blog, we will explore the effects of supraspinatus lesions on our shoulders and what can be done to reduce the pain. Before we start, it is important to note that you should consult with a therapist or doctor for more information on this topic before attempting any physical activity or exercises related to this condition.

supraspinatus lesions are often caused by external stressors, such as mechanical trauma or excessive training. They can also be caused by long-term poor posture maintenance or genetic predisposition. Psychological factors like stress and anxiety can also lead to supraspinatus lesions in some cases. Depending on an individual's activity level, any physical activity could cause an excess load on the tendon leading to pain emanating from an inflamed or lesioned supraspinatus.

Fortunately, there is hope! With a few simple rehabilitation exercises and a proactive approach towards treatment, it is possible to reduce or even eliminate shoulder pain associated with supraspinatus injury over time. Some of these exercises include flexibility training such as stretching and strengthening exercises like push-ups and pull-ups which help strengthen the surrounding muscles that support your shoulder joint while helping relieve stiffness in your spine as well as reducing any swelling around the area affected by the lesion itself. With regular practice of these simple but effective techniques combined with other treatments like massage therapy and cold compression therapy; one can manage their condition better and begin living life without fear of further aggravation from their shoulder injury caused by supraspinatus lesions!

Are you experiencing shoulder pain due to supraspinatus lesions? If so, tendinopathy may be the cause. Tendinopathy occurs when the tendon is over-stressed or overloaded and can be caused by excessive overcharge. In the past, anti-inflammatory medication and rest were common treatments for tendinitis, but these no longer help the tendon adapt or increase its ability to tolerate load. The best approach for rehabilitating high-pitched injuries due to supraspinatus lesions is an active plan, including exercise, proper nutrition, and supplementary treatments like ultrasound therapy and platelet-rich plasma injections.

For those with tendinopathy related to supraspinatus lesions, education and awareness are important to reduce the risk of injury during intense physical activity. Athletes should engage in appropriate athletic preparation and gradually increase volumes and loads before participating in activities that require sudden peak physical effort levels. With this information, athletes can become more aware of their body's limitations and avoid unnecessary risks, leading to greater overall health benefits.

           Injuries Without Trauma

Are MRIs necessary for high-pitched shoulder injuries without trauma? This is a common question among patients experiencing shoulder pain. While the answer is not always straightforward, in most cases, an MRI is not necessary, especially when the pain source is supraspinatus lesions.

Recent scientific literature shows that even those without pain may have degenerated or lesion tendons prior to the age of shoulder anatomical alterations. This means that it's possible for people to have these lesions before any symptoms appear and can be the cause of their shoulder pain even without trauma. Therefore, it's important to consider this possibility before deciding whether or not to get an MRI.

Rather than thinking of "deflated" tendinopathy during magnetic resonance, think of it instead as a cover with a hole still functioning optimally despite any lesions present. In cases where there isn't necessarily trauma, it's best to avoid MRI scans out of fear that they could create catastrophism, hindering healing by impeding active maintenance and execution actions taken on behalf of recovery efforts such as physical therapy exercises.

Overall, high-pitched injuries without trauma do not necessarily mean that the resulting injury is the cause of your pain. In fact, many times these lesions are present before any symptoms appear at all! Therefore, take an active approach with rehabilitation exercises prescribed by your physician instead of jumping straight into an unnecessary MRI scan due to fear or anxiety surrounding your injury.

When treating shoulder pain caused by supraspinatus lesions, an active approach with rehabilitation exercises is the best course of action. Surgery should not be the first treatment option compared to exercise-based programs, which are more effective. Passive therapies like Tecar therapy are not useful in treating shoulder pain related to supraspinatus pathology. Infiltrations provide temporary relief but can negatively impact tendon degeneration in the long term.

An active approach is more beneficial for treating this type of shoulder pain. Gradual and progressive exercises designed to strengthen underlying tendons and improve load tolerance should be included in any physical therapy program for supraspinatus injury. These exercises must avoid any movements that cause discomfort or symptoms. It's also necessary to conduct these exercises regularly under the supervision of a doctor or physical therapist to ensure safety and maximum results.

Weight-bearing activities, stretching, range-of-motion activities, can all help reduce inflammation and improve comfort levels for those suffering from this condition. These activities must be incorporated into daily routines alongside other therapeutic modalities, such as hot/cold packs or massage therapy, if required. This approach will help achieve optimum rehabilitation outcomes when dealing with supraspinatus-related shoulder pain.

Exercising with structural scoliosis can be challenging, but it doesn't have to be. Adults with structural scoliosis can still participate in fitness and weight training with the right safety tips and guidelines. Before beginning any exercise program, it's essential to consult a physical therapist.

When exercising with structural scoliosis, exercises such as back squats, pull-ups, and all types of jumps can be more dangerous due to the load on the shoulder curve. For milder cases (10-20 degrees), any exercise is generally safe as long as the correct technique is used, and the load progression is gradual. Subjects with more severe conditions (30+ degrees) must take extra caution and lower loads and repetitions during exercises such as squats or snatches from the scoliosis curve to avoid injury or worsening of the condition.

It's important to note that pain should not be present during exercise for those with scoliosis. If pain occurs, it could mean an incorrect technique was used or that something more serious, such as worsening of the condition, exists requiring further action. Stretching and strengthening exercises help improve posture stability over time, reducing the risk associated with activities that involve repetitive motions, especially when done incorrectly, such as running, swimming, and sports.

Exercising with scoliosis can be a daunting and difficult task. However, it is possible to have a safe and beneficial workout if you know the right tips and tricks. Below, we'll explore some exercise tips for adults with structural scoliosis that will help them work out safely while still achieving their fitness goals.

One important consideration when exercising with scoliosis is the psychological impact that this may have on an individual in terms of fear or anxiety related to physical activity. It may be beneficial to limit the amount of exercises done by a novice, particularly those that involve shoulder strain, to prevent potential injury or discomfort from occurring due to lack of experience with these activities.

Push-up exercises can still be performed without putting too much strain on the shoulders, as long as stability and control are maintained throughout the exercise. Pull-up movements usually do not cause any axial compression in one's spine and so can safely be attempted for individuals with scoliosis if they feel comfortable doing so after consulting their doctor or physiotherapist.

Physical therapy should also form a part of an adult’s exercise regime when suffering from scoliosis. As well as stretching muscles weaker than those affected by curvature, physical therapists may also incorporate strengthening exercises such as squats, planks, bridges etc... into a patient's routine in order to improve overall back health rather than attempting self-correcting maneuvers. Posture awareness should also be considered when performing any type of movement during workouts so as not to exacerbate existing spinal issues or put unnecessary strain on weakened areas.

In conclusion, exercising with scoliosis doesn't have to be difficult; it just requires knowledge about what types of movements are safe for your body type and careful consideration when attempting certain activities. With these tips in mind, you will soon find yourself feeling more confident in your workouts, knowing that you are taking care of your back health!

           In A Nutshell

Exercising with structural scoliosis can pose difficulties, but it need not be so. With appropriate tips and guidance, adults with scoliosis can still engage in physical activities safely and effectively. Certain exercises, such as stretching and strengthening routines, as well as participating in low-impact activities like push-ups and pull-ups, can be done carefully. It is crucial to have a session with a physical therapist before embarking on any physical activity program, especially if you have a more severe spinal curvature of 30 degrees or greater. Adopting proper form and proceeding with caution when venturing on new activities will ultimately give you the confidence to exercise and feel great while ensuring your back's well-being. Start engaging with structural scoliosis under calculated measures today!

Elbow pain, caused by medial and lateral epicondylitis conditions, can be difficult to manage while in the gym. It is characterized by lateral and medium pain in the elbow which can make lifting weights or using gym equipment uncomfortable. Today will discuss supportive tools for managing elbow pain while continuing to train with these conditions.

Hooks and straps are two tools that you can use. Hooks provide a rigid support and stability for heavier loads when experiencing higher levels of pain. Straps provide less support but still allow for exercises with lighter loads when experiencing milder symptoms from the condition.

When using hooks, make sure to insert them firmly between your palm and handle before tightening around your wrist for an optimal grip. With straps, loosely connect them around your wrists to easily move between different holds during exercise while supporting gripping muscles in the forearm area affected by this condition.

These tools, along with light stretching exercises beforehand, will help reduce symptoms while continuing to use gym equipment at a reduced risk of aggravating injuries associated with medial and lateral epicondylitis conditions. With these tips in mind, you should be able to get back into training without provoking any further elbow discomfort!

Exercising can be challenging, especially if you are experiencing elbow pain. Pain in the elbow can impede your ability to perform even the simplest of exercises, let alone more advanced ones. But don't fret! There are techniques and tools available to help alleviate elbow pain during exercise so that you can return to your regular routine without delay. In this article, we will discuss practical strategies for grip support and exercises, along with postural tips, to help manage elbow pain in the gym.

To reduce discomfort when exercising, one approach is to use pull exercises that do not cause pain. Machines like the Lat Machine or Pulley are excellent options because they provide grip support while still allowing for some muscle activation in the grip, and a small percentage of the load is raised by them. Other helpful exercises include turning your head away from where you feel discomfort, lifting weights with your hands instead of your arms, or using hooks that avoid activating forearm muscles entirely for more demanding workouts.

Straps also provide tremendous support while still allowing some muscle activation in the grip at a low intensity level. They should be placed around your handle before rotating and then held firmly in place with a handgrip for maximum effectiveness. Stretching before exercise is also critical because it increases the flexibility of the muscles around your joints, preventing stiffness and soreness associated with exercise-related injuries like tennis elbow or golfer's elbow, which result from overuse of specific muscles over time. Furthermore, proper posture is crucial while exercising, as poor posture can lead to undue strain on certain joints, resulting in chronic issues down the road if not addressed promptly. So always ensure that you maintain appropriate form when performing any exercise!

We'll also provide you with evidence-based recommendations for addressing lower back pain, and improving your clients' overall musculoskeletal health.

The Iliopsoas Muscle Is the Culprit for Lower Back Pain

One of the most persistent myths about back pain is that a single muscle, such as the iliopsoas, is solely responsible for causing chronic pain. However, the scientific literature tells a different story. According to current research, up to 95% of cases of lower back pain cannot be definitively traced to a specific biological culprit, such as a herniated disc or joint degeneration. In fact, chronic pain is often the result of a complex interplay of physical, psychological, and social factors.

This means that while the iliopsoas muscle may play a role in lower back pain, it's unlikely to be the sole cause of this condition. It's essential to approach back pain holistically, taking into account a range of factors that may be contributing to your clients' discomfort.

           Myth #2:

Treating the Iliopsoas Muscle Will Fix Lower Back Pain

Another common myth about back pain is that targeting a single muscle or tissue will effectively alleviate chronic pain. However, this approach fails to address the multifactorial nature of chronic pain. In fact, studies have shown that targeting a single muscle, such as the iliopsoas, with massage or stretching may provide only short-term relief, if any at all.

Instead, it's important to adopt a comprehensive approach to managing lower back pain, including a combination of physical therapy, exercise, and lifestyle modifications. This may include strengthening the core and gluteal muscles, improving posture, and incorporating stretching and mobility exercises into your clients' daily routine.

           Myth #3

            :

A Tight Iliopsoas Muscle Causes Lower Back Pain

Finally, there's a pervasive belief that a tight iliopsoas muscle is the primary cause of lower back pain. While it's true that a short, tight iliopsoas muscle can contribute to postural imbalances and create tension in the lower back, it's not the only factor at play.

Other potential contributors to lower back pain include poor posture, weak core muscles, and sedentary lifestyles. Additionally, psychological factors such as stress, anxiety, and depression can exacerbate pain and make it more difficult to manage.

           Conclusion

In conclusion, the relationship between the iliopsoas muscle and lower back pain is complex and multifaceted. While the iliopsoas muscle may play a role in chronic pain, it's unlikely to be the sole culprit. It's important to

As a massage therapist, rehabilitation specialist, or performance coach, you can help your clients manage their lower back pain by adopting a comprehensive approach that includes physical therapy, exercise, and lifestyle modifications. By strengthening the core and gluteal muscles, improving posture, and incorporating stretching and mobility exercises into your clients' daily routine, you can help them alleviate chronic pain and improve their overall musculoskeletal health.

            At the same time,

it's important to dispel the myths surrounding back pain and the iliopsoas muscle

. Rather than focusing exclusively on one muscle or tissue, you should encourage your clients to adopt a holistic approach that addresses the underlying causes of their pain.

it's important to first understand what chronic pain is and how it differs from acute pain

. Acute pain is a normal and typically short-term response to an injury or medical condition. For example, if you break your arm, you will experience acute pain as a result of the injury.

Suffering from back pain can be frustrating and painful. For many people, this pain becomes a constant part of their daily life. There are many reasons why back pain may occur, including injuries, poor posture, structural issues, and medical conditions such as arthritis. Therapeutic massage and rehabilitative exercise can be effective ways to manage and reduce back pain.

Therapeutic massage can help relax the back muscles and improve blood circulation in the painful area. This can lead to improved flexibility and movement, reducing muscle tension that often causes back pain. Many therapeutic massage therapists are highly trained and can work with you to create a personalized treatment plan to help reduce pain and improve back health. Rehabilitative exercise can help strengthen back muscles and improve flexibility. This can reduce muscle tension and alleviate pressure on the spine.

Back strengthening exercises can include lifting light weights, stretching, yoga, and other types of aerobic exercise. A professional in the field can help you develop an exercise program suitable for your specific needs and the severity of your back pain. Another option for relieving back pain is water therapy. Water can help reduce weight on the spine and joints, reducing pressure and pain. Water therapy can include exercises such as swimming, aqua aerobics, and other water exercises. Consulting with a professional is essential to understanding which type of water exercise is best suited for your needs.

In general, therapeutic massage, rehabilitative exercise, and water therapy can all be effective in relieving back pain. Furthermore, these methods can also be used to prevent back pain and maintain back health in the long term. When seeking a therapeutic massage therapist, personal trainer, or physical therapist, it is important to choose someone who is highly qualified and experienced in treating back pain.

Finally, to prevent back pain, it is important to maintain good posture, avoid lifting heavy objects improperly, and maintain a healthy and balanced diet to maintain a healthy weight. If you already have back pain, always consult a professional before starting any new exercise or therapy program. In conclusion, therapeutic massage, rehabilitative exercise, and water therapy can be effective ways to alleviate back pain and improve back health. These methods are supported by a solid scientific foundation and can be personalized for the specific needs of each individual. However, it is important to consult with a professional before starting any new treatment program for back pain. Moreover, to prevent back pain, it is important to maintain an active lifestyle and avoid poor posture or activities that may put the back's health at risk. Prevention is key to maintaining long-term back health and reducing the need for therapeutic interventions.

Ultimately, back pain can be a frustrating and painful problem, but there are many effective treatment options available to help manage it. Therapeutic massage, rehabilitative exercise, and water therapy are just some of the available options, but it is important to work with a professional to develop a personalized treatment plan that is suitable for the specific needs of each individual.

Tips to Optimize SLEEP

         Why Is Sleep So Important?

Often it is hard to get a good night’s sleep. Even when we do fall asleep, the quality of sleep may be lacking.

The following tips can assist you in getting that good night’s sleep:

Have a time of inner reflection before bed. It is much easier to fall asleep and rest being at peace with one’s self.

Avoid a pattern of sleeping 12 hours one night and then 6 the next. This does not equate to sleeping 9 hours a night. A true sleep bank simply does not exist. Oversleeping and under sleeping throw off your routine.

Exercise. Avoid intense, late night sessions. If these were done early in the day, they would aid in a good night’s sleep, but if they’re done at night, the opposite Is true.

Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and other stimulants in the evening hours before bed. Caffeine increases alertness, as do other stimulants. alcohol, however, will actually help you fall asleep, but it will greatly disrupt REM sleep; after a night of heavy drinking, you fall asleep early, but you are not resting.

Avoid sleeping pills. These will create a dependency and should be a last resort.

Get checked for sleep apnea. Many large, muscular men have sleep apnea that can easily be treated with a CPAP device that not only will improve sleep quality and performance but also can lower blood pressure and greatly improve overall health.

Optimize your sleeping environment. Keep your room cool and dark. Sometimes even playing soft classical music can help you doze off into restful bliss.

Relax at night and avoid extreme highs and lows. Neither promotes relaxation. If every time a certain person calls you, it results in an extreme emotional reaction, then, when you see that person calling, do not pick up the phone.

The Importance of Drinking WATER

Water is an essential nutrient that we must consume in our diet to survive. Without water, death occurs in only a few days. In the body, water serves as a medium in which chemical reactions take place; it also transport nutrients and wastes, provides protection, helps regulate temperature, participates in chemical reactions, and helps maintain acid-base balance. The recommended intake for adults is 2.7-3.7 Liter/Day.

Water is found in varying proportions in all the tissue of the body; blood is about 90% water, muscle about 75%, and bone about 25%. Adipocytes( fat cell ) have a low water content, only about 10%. In adults, about 60% of total weight is water but this varies with age and other factors that affect body composition. The percentage of water is high in infants than in adults and decreases as adult age, primarily due to increase in body fat and a loss of muscle mass. Because women typically have higher percentage of body fat than men, they have less body water. Obese individuals have a lower percentage of body weight as water and higher percentage as fat than their lean counterparts.

We need more water each day than any other nutrient. The DRIs recommend 3.7L per day for men and 2.7L per day for women. The actual amount needed may vary depending on activity, heat and humidity, and diet. Activity increases water needs because it increases the amount of water lost in sweat; the amount is greater in hot and humid environments. The composition and adequacy of the diet also affect water needs. A low-kcalorie diet increases water need because, as body fat and protein are broken down to fuel the body, ketones and urea are produced and extra water is needed for them to be excreted in the urine. A high protein diet increases the amount of urea and other nitrogenous waste that must be excreted. A high sodium diet increases water losses because the excess salt must be excreted in the urine. A high fiber diet increases water needs because more water is held in the intestines and lost in the feces. Despite variations in our fluid needs, most people consume adequate fluids on a day to day basis to maintain body water at a normal level.

Water needs increase during pregnancy and lactation. During pregnancy, water is needed to increase blood volume, produce amniotic fluid, and nourish the fetus. The AI for pregnancy of 3L/Day is based on the median total water intake during pregnancy. During lactation, the fluid secreted in milk, about 750mL or 3 cups/day, must be replaced by the mother’s fluid intake. Based on the median fluid intake during lactation, the AI is set at 3.8 L/day. The fluid requirements per unit of body weight are higher for infants than for adults. One reason is that the infant’s kidneys cannot concentrate urine as efficiently as adult kidneys, so water loss is grater. Moreover, insensible losses are proportionally greater in infants and children because body surface area are relative to body weight is much greater than in adults. In addition to having greater water needs, infants are susceptible to dehydration because they cannot ask for drink when they are thirsty. The AI for infants 0 to 6 months of age is 0.7L/Day and is based on the amount of water consumed in human milk.

Dehydration can occur if water intake is too low or output is excessive. Mild dehydration can cause headache, fatigue, loss of appetite, dry eyes and mouth, and dark coloured urine. The Darker an individual’s urine colour, the greater the level of dehydration. Pale yellow urine indicates good hydratiton.

         Benefits To Foam Rolling

Foam rolling is a one time investment that cost less than $10. Similar to deep tissue massage, SMR works by releasing trigger points because of the principle of autogenic inhibition.

Practitioners of SMR believe that the foam roller is one of the most effective tools for releasing tension in muscles and effectively improving overall range of motion.

Popular strength coach Mike Boyle has referred to foam rolling as a poor man’s massage. Advocates of the foam roller believe it is nearly as effective as massage is.

The foam roller is believed to have the benefits of correcting muscle imbalances, reducing stress, reducing pain, increasing joint range of motion, relieving muscle soreness and stress, improving the extensibility of the musculotendinous junction, increasing neuromuscular efficiency, and maintaining normal muscle strength.

Foam rolling is simply performed by taking the foam roller slowly rolling it across the muscle from which you want to release adhesions and knots. The foam roller is wedged between the floor and your body weight at the specific area you are focusing on.

You want to roll at a slow, controlled paced and stop on the most tender spots, directly focusing on the localized area where pain is most persistent. Once pain ceases, then move on to rolling out another area. Increasing the intensity of foam rolling is simple: just place a larger percentage of your body on the roller. To decrease the intensity, do the opposite.

Expert trainer Mike Robertson recommends rolling from the proximal to the distal attachment of a muscle. When rolling the thighs, roll from the top to the bottom, focusing on one specific area; do not do the whole targeted area at once. Robertson believes this sequence is important because, as you gain proximity to the distal muscle-tendon junction, there is greatly increasing tension.

In summary, you work the top half of the muscle first. Then, after that has loosened up, you can roll the bottom half. This will decrease the tension that is ensuing at the bottom of the muscle.

           Foam rolling guidelines:

Breathe slowly and controlled; this will relieve tension.

Perform foam rolling exercises post workout and on off training days. Some advocate this as warm up. However, not enough studies have been performed on SMR effects regarding force production and potential injury prevention when foam rolling is used as a warm up.

Spend approximately 1-2 minutes per technique per spot.

Spend 30-45 second on painful/tender areas.

             For best results, practice daily.
